Classic Rock Sucks

Okay, not really, but it definitely isn't my thing.  One of the things that annoys me in the way the older generation regards more modern music is that they so often delve into the same arguments.  A new artist is a "whore/sellout", they "can't sing," and that older person "has no idea why they're famous."  I don't understand the need to paint an artist as untalented or some kind of blight on society just because they simply aren't your taste.

It's probably the third comment that gets to me most, because I think it's hyperbole, and I hate hyperbole.  I have a difficult time believing that someone has no idea why a given artist is famous regardless of how much they hate that particular artist.  It just seems like a lie told for dramatic effect.  I could take a number of artists that I don't like, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, and Led Zeppelin for example (since they're basically the same thing), and even though I have no desire to listen to any of their music, I can understand their appeal and why they've made fistfuls of cash.

Maybe I'm not bitter enough in my distaste and disrespect for things I don't like, maybe I'm not selfish enough in thinking my tastes are the pinnacle of talent, or maybe I'm just an exclusive member of a remarkably intelligent few who can see the other side of things and can see the appeal to others in things that might not necessarily appeal to me.  Yeah, that has to be it.
